We weren’t sure it would come, but Frank has beat the odds and is now up for adoption. His journey has been long and challenging for Mazie’s and his foster, but we never gave up hope for this amazing boy. Frank came to us in October 2015 from the Corsicana shelter in really bad shape. All we knew when a volunteer went to pick him up was that he was a senior with a bad leg. It turned out he had bullets in one of his back legs, but that was the least of Frank’s problems! He was very underweight, heartworm positive and had patchy hair loss, bad skin, a growth on his head and kidney problems. All of that made the bullets in his leg seem like the least of his worries.
Kidney disease was expected at first, but it wasn’t too long he was diagnosed with Addison’s Disease. After lots of loving care and many tests, shots (ouch) & treatments, Frank is now neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped. Treatment for Addison’s Disease has improved his kidney function (normal), skin, hair and mobility issues. He’s had surgery to remove the tumor (benign), clean & remove broken teeth, and, of course, complete his neuter. Our doctor decided to leave the bullets as they weren’t impeding his movement or causing pain. Frankie is a trooper and is now healthy & happy!
Frank is very friendly, low-key and quiet. He never barks! He’s house trained and gets along with other dogs as long as they’re not too rough with him. Frankie loves his people – he’s one of the most loyal pets his foster mom has ever had the honor to love. He really only wants to be loved back and fed regularly. Give Frankie a treat and he’ll be your friend for life!
Frank’s Addison Disease is treated with a monthly steroid shot and supplemental steroid pills. He will need to be tested annually to confirm the dosage and will need monthly trips to the vet to receive his shot and prescription. He also takes joint supplements for mobility & fatty acid supplements for his skin & coat.
Because of his age and mobility issues, Frank would do better in a home without small children or rowdy pets/kids. He loves his squeaky toys, but he’s pretty low energy and would need the same in his new family. Don’t let this slow you down on considering this amazing boy for adoption. Hi has lots of love to give and we know he will change your life forever. Adoption is the last leg of his journey, now we just have to find his perfect home!
